For a player, the main insurance benefits are a Weekly Injury Benefit if an injury stops you working, and reimbursement for Non-Medicare Medical Expenses after a covered injury during an official NRL activity or sanctioned event.

Player benefits

• Weekly Injury Benefit: pays 85% of income up to $500 per week, if the injury affects your ability to work.
• This weekly benefit applies only if you were in full-time or part-time permanent employment for at least 40 hours in the 8 weeks before the injury.
• The weekly benefit has a 28-day excess and can run for up to 52 weeks.
• Non-Medicare Medical Expenses: reimburses 80% of eligible costs up to $5,000 per injury for members.
• If you do not have private health insurance, a $100 excess applies to this medical benefit; if you claim through private health insurance first, the excess is nil.

What is covered

The policy applies when an insured person is injured while playing in an official NRL game or taking part in sanctioned activities such as training sessions, camps, practice games, or organised social/administrative events.

What you can claim

Examples of Non-Medicare expenses include ambulance, private hospital accommodation, dental, physiotherapy, chiropractor, and some MRI scans, while Medicare-covered items like GP fees, public hospital accommodation, surgical fees, X-rays, and anesthetist fees are not claimable under this policy.

Practical note

The cover is not comprehensive, so players are encouraged to consider their own private health, life, income protection, and ambulance cover as well.
